Current music:The Sheds - "Drunk for Lunch"

what the font?!
Back in February I posted about how I wanted to find the font that Chip Kidd uses for his Osamu Tezuka book designs. Recently, I finally got a comp copy of "Ode to Kirihito" (it holds up on re-reading very well!), and I wondered about the font again. Here's the solution:

I used a very nifty website called What the Font (on myfont.com), which reads images of text, then allows you to correct its guesses as to which letters/glyphs it has scanned, and finally offers suggestions as to the font. I don't know if it always works this well, but it's certainly a promising initial course of action.

Wow, what a great find! The best since brandsoftheworld.com - more for designers than regular artists, but helpful nonetheless. Thanks Neil!

Yeah that's true; actually, I've gotten by with just 2 or 3 fonts for the past few years myself. But it's a cool bookmark to have!

Identifont has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. The site asks you a series of questions based about the font you're searching for and eventually gives you a narrow list based on your answers.

Oh this is a good idea! It must be using a neural net. I programmed something like this when I was an undergrad--it was a field guide that would tell you whether or not a mushroom was poisonous, by asking questions about its physical attributes.

Alas I've become stupid now.

Hey Bann.. It's going alright. I'm trying to have a productive weekend because I stayed home from San Diego to work on stuff! Derek is making use of my ticket.

I'm trying to work as well, I'd love to be at SDCC, maybe next year. I say that every year, but there is strong chances Flo and I might come visit you WestCoasters next year, so why not during comiccon ? ;-)

Lucky Derek ! I miss him, long time no see.

How's your book coming ? Well I hope.

I've read your story in Flight4, it's beautiful, nicely done, as always. You're the king of visual music expression.
